TELL IT LIKE IT IS, a mixed media show in partnership with ASPEN JOURNALISM opens at the Aspen Chapel Gallery on Wednesday, OCTOBER 1, from 4-7pm. The curator is artist Amy Beidleman. This is the 262nd consecutive exhibition since the Gallery opened 40 years ago. Participating artists are Amy Beidleman, John Bozza, Jake Bozza, Tim Cooney, Judy Haas, Molly Haberman, Larkin Horn, Shelley Safiie Marolt, Greg McFadden, Gaard Moses, Will Oakley, Karen Teague and Andre Wille.
The show is the 3nd show celebrating the Aspen Chapel Gallery’s 40th year. The gallery was started in June, 1985. In August, 2018, we started partnering with valley nonprofits. Since then, we have partnered with 35 different nonprofits and the 5 valley high school art departments. We have returned 20% of sponsorships and 10% of sales to the nonprofits, a total of $81,002 to date.
Karin Teague, photographer, explained, “The Independence Pass Foundation is thrilled to be in the Tell It Like It Is show, as we count on Aspen Journalism to dive deeply into critical environmental and public lands issues. In addition, we believe that the natural world—places like Independence Pass—always “tell it like it is”: we are delighted to share images that reflect these truths.”
Molly Haberman said, “I am excited and honored to be a part of the Aspen Chapel Gallery. It means so much to share space with my community.”
Andre Wille, sculptor, stated, “What I love about art is that it can tell stories in ways that other means cannot. Disciplines such as journalism, history, or science are all complemented by artistic commentary.”
Amy Beidleman, curator, explained, “It is our hope that the combination of art and our partnership with Aspen Journalism for this exhibit will help raise awareness of our crucial need for independent reporting.”
Greg McFadden said, “I’m excited to share my work locally as I cat ski guide on Aspen’s backside each winter.”
Painter Judy Haas reflected, “I am deeply honored to participate in a local exhibition in Aspen, a community where I was born and raised. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to the arts, studying and apprenticing with well-known artists and showing my work throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.”
Jake Bozza declared, I’m excited to be in this show because it’s a combination of long-time locals who always bring in a fun crowd.”
Aspen Journalism, founded in 2011, is a nonprofit journalism organization based in Aspen, Colorado. The mission is to produce investigative and in-depth journalism for those with a stake in the Aspen region, by virtue of their living, voting, owning, working, recreating, or visiting here. They believe well-informed citizens make better decisions, that good journalism can sustain both community and democracy, that investigative reporting can spur needed reform, and that well-written stories are an efficient and effective way to reach engaged citizens.
